Stewart Warner Wind Charger

General discussion, does not have to be windmill related.

Well, the mystery wind charger has been identified. It has the flip up mechanism for the generator and blade assembly so it must be a Parris-Dunn. It has a 6 ft. blade on it. I told him what you guys came up with and he was very appreciative of all the info. I have been watching it today and it has been running all day.

Thanks again for all your help.

Wooly B.

P.S. I took a few pictures but am not smart enough to down load them to this site.

Jeff;

Thank You for the Parris-Dunn Web site information. There is some interesting info. on there. I have passed it on to my neighbor and I think that he has already been in touch with the museum in Clairinda, Ia..

Sorry for my late reply. (been out of town)

This is Wooly's mill. Now you folks can ask questions about it to the designer and builder.

I posted this in another section a while ago....

Since Windybob has posted a picture of my windmill I will try to tell you a little bit more about it. I found the gear box (Dempster Model 12A) at a metal salvage yard about 6 years ago. It was locked up and full of rust. I didn't want to start restoring it till I found the right wheel and tail to fit it. I found an 8 ft. Heller-Aller wheel a few years later at the same scrap yard. It was all crumpled up but the frame work of the wheel was all there so I restored it and adapted it to the Dempster box. I made new sails for it (36 total). Thats when I met Windybob. He supplied the right tail, a big box of parts, (this amateur didn't know he needed,), a tail paint stencil and a whole lot of helpfull advice. Needless to say, I could not have finished it without Bob's expertise and guidance. I built the 20 ft. hinged tower out of treated pine in my shop. I set the assembled mill up using a 1950 Coleman Aircraft Mover (with 4 wheel drive) which I have restored. I thoroughly enjoyed the project but definitly could not have done it without Bob's help. I apologise for the length of this post (a lot longer than I intended) but I certainly have enjoyed the mill, which is now pumping. Thanks again Bob.
